Could you tell me a bit about yourself and what motivates you?

My work is built on years of experience developing effective pedagogies to raise attainment and inspiring teachers and children alike to succeed and enjoy. My passion for teaching and learning and inspiring others to enjoy it too and I never tire of finding new ways to motivate teachers to try something new.

What is your educational experience?

After many years as a primary school teacher and SENCO, I became my Local Authority’s first Teaching and Learning consultant.  Working for the School Improvement team, I was responsible for CPD design and guidance on a range of curriculum and assessment matters and provided highly evaluated training to all schools in the Local Authority.  The experience and training I received in coaching was useful to me when I moved to my role as Assistant Headteacher at a large Primary school.  I was responsible for Literacy, data analysis, Transition and extended schools.  From 2008-2011 I began working on the National strategies’ Every Child a Writer programme where I became responsible for leading and managing the National programme, monitoring progress of pupils in all 137 LAs, developing the skills of teams of Leading teachers, supporting Local Authority lead consultants and evaluating the success of the programme across al regions, reporting this to the Department for Education.  I led National CPD events for Leading teachers, consultants and class teachers, which were highly evaluated for usefulness and impact by delegates.  I have written and produced CPD materials, including web-based and video materials to support teachers in improving writing and provided support and advice via web forum to over 1700 teachers involved in ECaW. I now work as a consultant for TT Education, working to improve outcomes for children and teachers in Primary schools across the country.

What is your educational specialism?

I have post-graduate qualifications in leading Assessment for learning and have led classroom-based research projects on effective use of assessment for learning strategies such as success criteria, written feedback and questioning.  I specialise in all aspects of reading and writing from creative approaches to teaching grammar to raising attainment through drama, film and guided writing.

What do you like doing outside of work?

As a mother of two girls, family time is my out-of-work priority.  Together we enjoy camping, swimming, walking and cycling.  When I do get time alone I always have a book on my hand!
