TT Education Consultant

  • More than 20 years' experience in the education sector.
  • Focused on improving learning by developing effective talk in the classroom.

Could you tell me a bit about yourself and what motivates you?

I have always valued opportunities to learn and develop and it was this that motivated me to become a teacher. Education should be a continuous process of self-improvement and understanding that only begins with school. If children can take this idea into adulthood, they can lead more fulfilled, productive lives. I am keen to promote the values of education for the positive impact it has on us all.

What is your educational experience?

I have more than twenty years’ experience of working in education, specialising in the Primary sector, from inner city London to rural North Yorkshire. The main areas of my work are now in the professional development of all staff within school, although I still continue to teach occasionally in order to ensure an up-to- date understanding of the realities of the classroom.

I am a strong believer in providing supportive, structured professional development including professional mentoring and coaching and have worked in schools in a number of authorities nationally, to implement mentoring programmes.

What is your educational specialism?

Much of my recent work has focused on improving learning by developing effective talk in the classroom. I have worked extensively with a number of leading institutions to develop and deliver high quality CPD to teachers in authorities across the country.

With an increasing amount of research evidence becoming available, my desire is to find ways to translate this into practical, workable solutions for teachers. I have considerable experience of applying pedagogical theory to the hectic and ever changing setting of the classroom.

I have also lectured on the teaching of science at undergraduate and post-graduate level as well as delivering CPD courses that aim to distil current evidence and academic thought into practical applications.

What do you like doing outside of work?

Away from work, I enjoy reading, writing and listening to music. Sitting on a shelf, there are two manuscripts of novels for young adults that I’ve written, waiting for a publisher to discover me as a writer.

I like socialising with friends and when I can, enjoy playing snooker to a very low standard.
