As a primary school teacher, I have always been motivated by the needs of all the children and have always endeavoured to use a wide variety of techniques and strategies to meet these. I see myself as a life long learner and relish the opportunity to share this passion with others!
My teaching career began 24 years ago and in that time I have been both a class teacher and a senior leader and have worked with all primary age ranges. I have also been involved in the training of student teachers, the moderation of end of KS2 writing and had the responsibility for many subjects. I am currently the Literacy and Phase 2 leader at my school which enables me to support , mentor and train other members of staff.
Although I enjoy teaching all areas of the primary curriculum, English is my specialism and my passion. For me, one of the highlights of my job is sharing my love of Shakespeare with the children I teach through talking and drama projects. I am very keen to share my love of literature and drama with both adults and children. I have always been on a bit of a mission to encourage children to read more and have worked very hard over the years to develop positive attitudes to reading in my pupils.
When a pupil has a light bulb moment, with everything finally clicking into place is possibly one of my favourite teaching moments. I love to see pupils fired up about their learning and not being afraid to have a go! I'm a big believer in improving pupil mindsets about learning so that they can reach their full potential.
When I am not working, if you can drag me away from the book I am reading, I like to spend time with my family and friends. I enjoy bike rides, walking our dog and visiting the beach in the summer.
