Government announces additional funding for senior mental health leader training

We are delighted that the Department for Education has announced a further £7m in funding for senior mental health lead training for the remainder of the 2022-23 financial year. This means that settings now have the opportunity to benefit from the training until March 2023.

TT Education are proud to have two DFE assured Senior Mental Health Leader courses available, which can be fully funded by the DFE grant.

Introduction to Senior Mental Health Leadership is designed for those who are new to leadership or the role of senior mental health leader, or schools who are early on in their journey towards embedding a whole school approach to mental health and wellbeing. This programme includes access to a whole school mental health audit and an on-demand session to support you in this. A full day training course follows, looking at how to begin to develop a whole school approach to mental health along, and the training ends with a personalised coaching session on Zoom, to help your senior mental health leader develop their strategic plan and leadership skills.

Developing Strong Senior Mental Health Leadership is a more in-depth programme for those who already have experience as a leader, or schools that have already started their mental health journey and are now looking to strengthen, embed and sustain high-quality practice and provision. This programme involves two full training days followed by a group coaching session and a personal coaching session (both coaching sessions via Zoom). You will also have access to our whole-school mental health audit tool, and the on-demand session to support you in carrying out this audit.

The government grant is fixed at £1200: it can be used to cover the costs of DFE-accredited training but also “to fund further training, activity or resources that supports the development of a senior mental health lead, and contributes to the implementation of an effective whole school or college approach to mental health and wellbeing in a setting.” (DFE conditions of grant information)

Feedback from our schools has shown that Senior Mental Health Leads would value the opportunity to collaborate and connect with other mental health leads, something that is not always available in their local area. We are pleased to now be offering our National Network for Senior Mental Health Leaders: for only £300 per academic year for membership, the network includes:

  • Half-termly network sessions via Zoom, facilitated by our experienced school improvement partners and mental health specialists;
  • Access to our dedicated Senior Mental Health Leaders’ Facebook Group, to allow leaders to regularly connect and share best practice, and signpost useful information;
  • Regular updates and information on mental health and wellbeing in education;
  • 20% discount on our library of on-demand mental health and wellbeing courses for primary, secondary and special Schools;
  • The opportunity to vote on new course content that you would value, linked to mental health and wellbeing;
  • Early access to new courses on mental health and wellbeing.
