Talk, Talk, Talk: Using Different Approaches to Talk to Develop Language Acquisition and Vocabulary

Talking to and with children is one of the most powerful tools we have as practitioners. Knowing how to communicate with children effectively, how to effectively model language we want them to acquire, and how to use questioning appropriately is incredibly important.

About this INSET

Children need to learn to communicate effectively with us and with each other in order to develop skills such as collaboration and teamwork. These are skills that should be taught and practised.

This training session will:

  • Develop your understanding of different ways to talk to children at different stages of their development
  • Give practical examples of activities to use with children to support their speaking and listening skills
  • Share activities you can take away to develop children’s vocabulary
