Vocabulary Explosion: More Ideas for Excellence in Vocabulary Acquisition

Ofsted’s new approach is looking for unprecedented levels of foundation subject vocabulary, and this is being part-tested through the Y6 reading SATs. About this INSET

Ofsted’s new Inspection Framework places a great emphasis on vocabulary: its acquisition, retention, and sophistication of use. This provides a challenge for children, especially those from more disadvantaged backgrounds.

This is our second short course on vocabulary acquisition and will:

  • Give you dozens of practical vocabulary strategies; 
  • Suggest how to move children towards conceptual nuance in their vocabulary 
  • Outline whole-school approaches, and;
  • Link vocabulary to subject context and progression.
