Mathematical understanding is not only an important part of learning in the early years but also a vital life skill. One of the best ways to support the development of children’s mathematical understanding is through regular practice in a maths-rich environment.
Maths is an abstract concept, but by using early years curriculum approaches (such as enabling environments and learning through play) children can be supported to make sense of mathematical concepts in fun and engaging ways. This will enable them to develop their mathematical understanding.
