As pupils move into secondary schools, some are very well prepared – others are likely to struggle because of gaps in their knowledge (that can happen for a wide range of reasons).  In this INSET, we aim to give secondary teachers – particularly those in KS3 – a range of practical activities that can help to plug those gaps, increase student vocabulary breadth, improve confidence in reading and writing – and develop mathematical thinking that will combine to support their learning in other subjects as well.

This training will:

• Give teachers a deeper understanding of what it takes to close gaps in learning.

• Focus on developing skills in reading, writing and maths to support wider learning.

• Provide you with a range of practical activities to demonstrate what classroom practice may look like.

• Consider how ongoing assessment models can support great learning, and close gaps quickly.

• Enable your school to continue its journey towards excellence.
