About this course

Course description:

This one-day CPD course will provide you with a range of strategies to implement at your school that can help vulnerable or disadvantaged children to reach their potential.

"Closing The Gap: Raising Attainment for Disadvantaged Pupils" provides a detailed overview of the breadth of challenges faced by disadvantaged pupils in today's world. We also explore how to move beyond monitoring and intervention approaches to deliver outstanding, proactive provision that can raise children's aspirations and attainment.

Based on research drawn from national and international projects, as well as our own projects (which have shown outstanding progress), this course will leave you feeling inspired and empowered to implement strategies to support your most vulnerable pupils.

The training will:

  • Give you a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by different groups of disadvantaged pupils, enabling you to plan strategically, based on your current trends and data.
  • Explore the importance of developing a culture of oracy, vocabulary and language across all year groups, including a framework to support staff.
  • Focus on the leadership aspects key to raising attainment for disadvantaged pupils, moving from monitoring and intervention to outstanding proactive provision.
  • Provide you with all the tools needed to become a ‘Pupil Premium Champion’ within your school, from raising aspirations within the community to using language patterns and structures to support pupils in finding their voices.
  • Consider how our Path to Success can be applied, enabling pupils to master the primary curriculum and be ready for the next stages of their education.

Audience:

  • Teachers of EYFS, Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2
  • Teaching Assistants
  • Subject/Phase leaders
  • Senior Leadership Team
