Improving Pedagogy: Developing Quality First Teaching in Primary Schools

The EEF says our “top priority” to improve outcomes should be “ensuring an effective teacher is in front of every class, and that every teacher is supported to keep improving”. This idea is often called ‘Quality First Teaching’, but how do you actually do that? This engaging course will give you some clarity - and dozens of practical ideas!

  • Empowering teachers - and children - to deepen learning
  • Assessment for Learning and Assessment AS Learning
  • Fully aligned with the latest Ofsted thinking and the 2021 Early Years Framework

About this course

‘Quality First Teaching’ is a wide-ranging phrase that can sometimes feel a bit daunting for newer teachers - and experienced practitioners too. We know that learning can be disrupted by traditional approaches like streaming or out-of-class interventions, but how do you teach a whole cohort at once, with a wide range of needs? This course explores the ‘QFT’ concept and gives you dozens of practical ideas that have been tried and tested in the classroom.

  • Creating challenge for a whole class at once
  • Efficient but effective assessment that improves outcomes
  • Supporting children in a way that maintains independence

  • Class teachers (ECTs but experienced practitioners too)
  • Mentors for ECTs
  • Head teachers and SLT
  • EYFS, KS1, KS2
