Classroom teaching in mainstream settings is usually a one-person show, or if you’re fortunate you may also have a TA. Teaching in a special school (or provision within mainstream) often means you have a team of three or more other adults to lead.
Leading, as a teacher, in a classroom with a team of adults is definitely challenging. When we train to teach, we learn to master our own space. With a team of four or more adults, we must consider skills, personal journeys and experiences, how to get the best for every pupil in our class – and how to stay together as a team in what can be very trying circumstances – albeit very rewarding ones.
