Raising Attainment in Primary Art

All children need the opportunity to be creative and express themselves. It allows children to think, investigate, explore all whilst developing skills and the confidence to be themselves. But how do we ensure that the skills and knowledge children need are taught in enough depth and that our curriculum is progressive? This one-day course will ensure that you have all the information you need to keep art teaching creative and focused. It will:

  • Develop an understanding of art’s place in the development of ‘cultural capital’
  • Improve the teaching and learning of art in simple practical ways
  • Explore how art can be developed into a more integral part of the curriculum

About this Course

Art skills are like any other skills: they need to be taught, practised, honed and developed but art can sometimes be a poor relation in our curriculum as demands on our time can often mean that our focus is on the core subjects.

This training will:

  • Look at how art can be used as a gateway into learning in other curriculum areas
  • Explore how to structure your curriculum to meet – and exceed – the requirements of Ofsted’s new Inspection Framework
  • Provide you with a range of practical activities
  • Consider the use of art to improve wellbeing, behaviour and attitudes to learning
  • Enable your subject to continue its journey towards excellence.

Audience:

This course is appropriate for primary schools.

  • Primary teachers and TAs
  • Subject leaders
  • NQTs and RQTs
