Raising Attainment in Primary Music

Research has linked music education to improvements in working memory, language acquisition, spelling, concentration, effort, behaviour and wellbeing. But it is also an important subject in its own right, and it develops children’s “cultural capital”.

  • Improve teaching and learning in music irrespective of your teachers' own confidence
  • Develop “cultural capital”
  • Use music to inform and improve learning in other subjects

About this course

Music is a fertile ground for developing evaluation skills, self-discipline, resilience and SMSC; but it is also a vital foundation subject in its own right. However, it can sometimes be pushed down the curriculum “pecking order” because of other commitments, and a lack of teacher confidence.

This training will:

  • Explore how to structure your curriculum to meet – and exceed – the requirements of Ofsted’s new Inspection Framework
  • Provide you with a range of practical activities
  • Consider the use of music to improve wellbeing, behaviour and attitudes to learning
  • Enable your school to continue its journey towards excellence.

Audience:

This course is appropriate for primary schools.

  • Primary teachers (all years)
  • Music / curriculum leaders
  • Senior leaders
