About this INSET

Raise standards in science by using creative, practical and achievable ways to inspire primary scientists. This dynamic INSET day is designed to promote high quality teaching and learning of this core curriculum area.

Experience dozens of ideas, games and approaches devised to enhance your children’s natural curiosity about the world around them.

This training is designed for teachers and leaders who wish to develop children’s scientific enquiry skills and foster a love of science. It will provide the confidence to teach outstanding primary science in a vibrant, interactive way which promotes enquiry and learning at greater depth.

  • Raise standards in science by using creative and achievable ways to develop children’s curiosity
  • Develop effective strategies to manage practical enquiry within the primary classroom
  • Explore progression within scientific enquiry and improve your understanding of the ‘Working Scientifically’ programme of study
  • Deepen your knowledge and understanding of scientific vocabulary and concepts
  • Learn about the importance of making meaningful cross-curricular links through a powerful hook, exploring prior experience, understanding context and having a clear purpose for scientific investigation
  • Explore the power of talk and higher order thinking skills as a means to develop curiosity and support learning at greater depth
  • Learn where to go for ideas, information and resources to develop teachers’ confidence with the teaching of primary science

You will return to the classroom feeling confident in your ability to develop pupils’ curiosity and scientific vocabulary through engaging starting points, effective questioning and talk-led, active approaches.

Our INSET price varies depending on the number of staff attending. You may choose to open the training up to your Teaching Assistants and have a whole staff training experience. Or, you may wish to aim the training simply at your teaching staff.
