About this course

Throughout this session, there will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions to help develop our own confidence in teaching maths. We will explore some of the reasons why learners may struggle with certain aspects of maths and how to avoid some of the common misconceptions that can easily become embedded in the way we think about maths. This highly practical session will make sure that you come away with a clear understanding of practicalities in maths that help support both learners  knowledge and confidence.

  • Understand and cope with the tricky bits of the National Curriculum for Maths at Key Stage 3
  • Explore the pedagogy of great maths teaching, to ensure students learn the concepts and essential underpinning skills to support learners towards GCSE/Functional Skills
  • Create successfully sequenced medium term plans and develop a maths audit to support embedding maths across the curriculum 
  • Support learners’ misconceptions and those who struggle with maths
  • Encourage communication and collaboration in maths
